Vernon J. "Blondy" Ahman, 96, a long time resident of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away October 20, 1995 at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Boise, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 25th at the Pleasant Grove under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by District IV of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.Vernon was born on October 26, 1898 at Big Springs, Montgomery County, Missouri. He was the only child of Charles W. Ahmann and Varilla Guill. Vernon served his country in World War I, enlisting at an early age, in the Army Air Force. He was stationed in France. Vernon farmed in the Midwest and began working in road building and construction work. In the early 1940's he located in the Pleasant Grove area to help in the construction of Geneva Steel Plant. Vernon enlisted in the Naval Reserves, Construction Battalion in 1942 and was sent to the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he returned to Pleasant Grove and married Reva West. He worked at road construction jobs, and for Pleasant Grove City. He was shop foreman for Utah County Roads and later became the supervisor for road building in Utah County. Vernon was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was active in civic affairs, serving 18 years on the Strawberry Days Committee. He was also interested in local politics and was a 50 year member of the American Legion, where he served as Post Commander. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Pleasant Grove Riding Club. He loved his horses and found great pleasure in riding them and improving his property. After his beloved Reva's death, Vernon lived for a short time in Mountain Home, Idaho, then moved to St. David, Arizona. He loved the climate and the people there.

Vernon is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Robert Baker, of Mountain Home, Idaho; five grandchildren, MariLee Allred (Mrs. Russell), of West Jordan, Utah; Bryce R. Baker and Burke J. Baker, of Boise, Idaho; Suzanne Baker and Blake A. Baker, of Mountain Home; a great-grandchild, Jordan Allred.
