Dennis Ferrin, drama and speech instructor at Layton High School, has been named by the Utah High School Activities Association as Utah's speech educator of the year.
The honor, one of the association's distinguished service awards, goes to outstanding contributors to Utah high school activities.In addition to his work at Layton High School, Ferrin has been involved in a number of regional theater projects, including directing the recent Layton Arts Council production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," which inaugurated the new Ed Kenley Amphitheater, and designing sets for Off Broadway Theatre's "Noises Off" and the 1988 LDS artists' concert at Abravanel Hall.
A resident of Centerville, Ferrin's contributions to high school activities include being named Region 1 drama teacher of the year, 1995-96; Davis County School District Hall of Fame, 1994; state director of the International Thespian Society, 1982-83, and both teacher of the month and teacher of the year at Layton High in 1990.
