A man has been charged with insurance fraud for paying someone to wreck his truck so he could claim more than $6,000 in insurance money.
Sheriff's deputies found the 1994 Mazda truck ruined and off the road near Big Mountain in East Canyon Oct. 1. When the owner was contacted, he said the truck had been stolen the night before and was "his baby, his pride and joy," according to 3rd Circuit Court records. The man, 32, then filed a claim against more than $6,000 in damages, but said he was sorry the truck "wasn't totaled" and that he could "just kick myself for leaving the keys in the car," the documents state.
But another man who told police he wrecked the truck said the man told him the truck would be left unlocked with the keys in it and $500 in the glove compartment.
He stated the man called him later unhappy because the truck wasn't totaled and the job was done badly, the records state.
