Ten writers have been given $50,000 Lannan Literary Awards for 1995. They are Hayden Carruth (poetry), Carol Ann Duffy (poetry), Li-Young Lee (poetry), Arthur Sze (poetry), Louis de Bernieres (fiction), Mary Morrissy (fiction), Alice Munro (fiction), Thomas Berry (nonfiction), Richard K. Nelson (nonfiction) and Scott Russell Sanders (nonfiction).
James Tate has been awarded the Tanning Prize, the largest annual literary prize in this country. The $100,000 award is to recognize outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry.And Francisco Rebolledo of Mexico has won the Pegasus Prize for Literature, which is given to fiction authors from abroad. Rebolledo won the $7,000 for "Rasero," a book that will be published by Louisiana State University Press this fall.
