Sue Geary has been named director of the Utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities. She replaces Ric Zaharia, who resigned in August.
Geary has been the central region director of the division for the past two years. She's a 20-year veteran of state government and was named Utah State Manager of the Year by Gov. Mike Leavitt for 1994-95. Her experience includes serving as assistant superintendent at the Utah State Developmental Center, as well as program administrator and program director there. She was a principal at Oakridge School, a special academy for students with severe disabilities and in the position she facilitated integration of Oakridge students into regular schools in the Provo District.Geary has a doctorate in educational administration, a master's degree in special education and a bachelor's in psychology. She has held leadership positions with a variety of local and national professional organizations.
