Hop aboard the Eastern and Oriental Express with Buddy Hatton, as he transports you armchair-style from Singapore to Thailand at the University Travel Club's third travelog. Showtime is Wed., Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The screening will take place in the auditorium of Highland Park Elementary School, 1738 E. 2700 South.
Passengers sit in private compartments as the train moves across the Malaysian peninsula. The adventure begins in Singapore, where East meets West and old mixes with new. The train stops in cities rich in tradition and mystery, whose sites, sounds and smells weave themselves into an intriguing tapestry.Hatton focuses his camera on the Old Sultan's Palace, the Changi fishing village, Chinatown, Jurong Birdpark and Sentosa Island Park. You'll see workers in a batik factory, tea plantations, an elephant show, a poisonous snake show, chair and umbrella factories, murals, monks and a monkey school.
Bangkok, a city of temples and palaces, canals and dragon boats, is the final stop.
Hatton began his stage career at an early age on the "Our Gang" series. He has participated in almost every sector of the entertainment industry including radio and television. An American, he was twice awarded the "Best Canadian Male Television Performer." He was the game show host for Canada's versions of "American Bandstand" and "The Price is Right."
When not presenting travelogs, Hatton can be heard on San Francisco's number 1 adult music radio station, KFRC-Magic, 61.
