Linda McCartney, the wife of the former Beatle, has had a lump removed after a breast-cancer scare, the couple disclosed Saturday.
Paul McCartney said Linda, 53, went for a breast scan at a London hospital last week and was found to have a small lump."She has had an operation to remove the lump which was performed successfully. Luckily, it was caught in time," he told Britain's Press Association news agency. He said Linda was now recovering at home.
The McCartneys have been married for 25 years and have four children. Linda runs a successful vegetarian food business and formerly played keyboards and sang in McCartney's 1970s pop group "Wings," formed after the Beatles split up.
