Stephen David Carruthers, age 36, was caught in an avalanche while skiing in the Wasatch on Sunday, February 12, 1995 and was fatally injured.

He was well known in the Salt Lake community for his accomplishments as a rock climber, skier and athlete. He also enjoyed windsurfing and golfing. He graduated from Queensbury High School in Queensbury, N.Y. in 1976. He also attended the University of Utah. Stephen was self-employed as a general contractor and operated Carruthers Cabinets with his brother, Thomas.He leaves behind his wife, Nancy and daughter, Lucia; his parents, Robert and Dolores Carruthers, sister, Diane Kimmey, maternal grandmother, Myrle Carruthers, all of Queensbury, New York; his brother, Thomas, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Silverfork Lodge in Big Cottonwood Canyon between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Stephen in the names of Nancy and Lucia Carruthers. Donations may be made at any branch of First Security Bank. Funeral
