Matthew Kendall Salt, 39, dearly loved husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away February 16, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long and very courageous battle with diabetes.

He was born July 8, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dale Lambourne and Hope Yergensen Salt. He married Shannon Gaye Bennion in the Salt Lake LDS Temple December 17, 1977. Matt graduated from Highland High School in 1973 and served an LDS Mission at Dallas Texas from 1974-76. He graduated from the University of Utah in Mechanical Engineering in 1980 and then worked at Tooele Army Depot as a project engineer until his health forced him to retire in 1989. Matt has always been an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions.One could always count on Matt to be honest, committed, tenacious, and outspoken in all his dealings. He had a great love for the beauty of the mountains and loved to hike and camp in them. Matt was completely and unequivocally devoted to his family, always putting their needs before his own without hesitation or thought of complaint. He had an eye for detail and will be remembered by those who were closest to him for his inspirational strength, wisdom and courage in the face of formidable odds.

He is survived by his best friend and eternal companion, Shannon; cherished sons, Matthew Spencer and David Kendall; parents, all of Salt Lake City; brother, Steven Dale (Velda) Salt, Kirksville, Missouri, and sister, Patrice S. (Tom) Kurz, Ithaca, New York. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by grandparents, one niece and one nephew.

We would also like to thank family and friends who have been there for us and without whom we never would have made it. We love you all!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18th, 12 Noon at the Colonial Hills II Ward, 1455 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and at the Ward on Saturday, from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
