Geoff Courtnall scored on a power play just 51 seconds into the game and four other Vancouver players added goals, leading the Canucks over the slumping San Jose Sharks 5-1 Sunday behind Kirk McLean's 26 saves.

The Canucks won their second straight road game and are 3-1-2 in their last seven overall, while the Sharks extended their losing streak to five games. Since a promising 5-1 start, San Jose is 2-7-2 in its last 11 games.Pavel Bure added a goal and two assists, while Sergio Momesso, Josef Beranek and Gary Leeman also scored.

Todd Elik scored the only goal for the Sharks, who went 0-for-4 on the power play to extend their consecutive scoreless power-play streak to 32. San Jose is 5-for-75 on power plays this season.

Vancouver had no problem converting on special teams, going 2-for-5 on the power play. Courtnall's goal in the first period, his eighth of the season, came only 23 seconds after San Jose's Shean Donovan was penalized for roughing.

Momesso took a pass from Greg Adams on a 2-on-2 break and lifted it past sprawling San Jose goalie Arturs Irbe for a 2-0 lead at 5:07 of the first. Beranek scored when he followed his own rebound, and Vancouver was already up 3-0 with just 10:47 gone in the first.

After Leeman scored only 2:41 into the second period for a 4-0 lead, Irbe was pulled for Wade Flaherty, who finished the game saving 20 of Vancouver's next 21 shots.

Elik took the faceoff after Leeman's goal and scored just six seconds later on a 40-foot slap shot, but McLean stopped all of San Jose's other 26 shots.

Bure's eighth goal of the season close the scoring at 12:29 of the third.

The Sharks honored defenseman Gaetan Duchesne in a pre-game ceremony. The 14-year veteran became the 100th NHL player to appear in 1,000 games.

Flames 5, Mighty Ducks 3

At Anaheim, Calif., - Sheldon Kennedy scored his first two goals with the Calgary Flames, including the go-ahead goal with 7:46 remaining, in a 5-3 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Kennedy and Kevin Dahl scored their first goals of the season as the Flames overcame a two-goal deficit with four consecutive goals and beat the Ducks for the fifth straight time.

Calgary's Trevor Kidd (9-6-3), only NHL goaltender to start every game this season, made 20 saves for the Flames. Anaheim's Guy Hebert (3-7-1) stopped 23 shots.

Capitals 1, Lightning 1

At Landover, Md., - Dave Poulin scored early in the third period to give the Washington Capitals a 1-1 tie with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday in a matchup of weary teams playing their third game in four days.

Poulin's game-tying goal, with 19:28 left in regulation, was Washington's only shot in the third period. The Capitals then managed only one shot in the overtime en route to their third straight tie.

Enrico Ciccone scored in the second period for the Lightning, who are 2-0-1 at the halfway point of a six-game road trip. Tampa Bay, which took only 17 shots, had been 7-0-0 when taking a lead into the third period.

Daren Puppa stopped 22 shots for the Lightning, including a close-in attempt by Peter Bondra with 2:13 to go in overtime.
