Thiokol Corp. has appointed retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Michael P.C. Carns and Edsel D. Dunford, a former TRW Inc. executive, to its board of directors.

Carns, 57, retired as vice chief of staff, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., in 1994. He is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and holds a master of business degree from Harvard University. He flew 200 combat missions during the Vietnam War and logged more than 7,000 hours as a command pilot during his 35-year career.Dunford, 59, retired recently as president and chief operating officer of TRW. Previously, he was executive vice president and general manager of TRW's Space & Defense organization. He has a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington and a master of engineering degree from the University of California in Los Angeles.

These appointments bring the total board to 10 members.

Thiokol is a major producer of solid propulsion systems, ordnance and composite products for the space and defense industries, and high-technology, proprietary fastening systems.
