Davis School District recently named Christine Wahlquist as the district's director of educational assessment, Martha Avant as elementary music supervisor and Virginia Ord as science supervisor.
Wahlquist, a graduate of Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, said she wants to "look at student performance with a broader perspective than standardized or norm-referenced testing."She also hopes to help teachers in their efforts to teach methods and knowledge applicable to tests.
Avant, a graduate of the University of Texas, said she will combat the "hodgepodge" of approaches to music in elementary schools.
"Every child should be able to experience music daily in their classrooms," she said. "You don't need to call a `timeout' to teach music."
Ord, a graduate of Weber State University, said she will push to make science instruction more integrated.
"Science is not an isolated entity, so it should not be taught that way," she said.
Ord will also push girls to pursue scientific and technological fields.
