John Richard Fluhman, 81, died on Friday, March 17, 1995 of natural causes. His immediate family were with him at the time of his death.
He was born November 25, 1913 in Greenriver, Sweetwater County, Wyoming to John Fluhman and Harriett Conger Richards. The family eventually moved from Antelope, Daggett County, Utah to Willard, Utah where Dick met and married Elaine Gull on September 29, 1938. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple.Dick was skilled with his hands and particularly loved wood working. He spent many years in heavy construction in Utah and Southern California. Dick and Elaine served for eight years in a church service capacity in New Zealand and Australia, where Dick's skills were used in the construction of a number of meeting houses. He served for a time as area Physical Facilities Director in the Pacific Islands. At the time of his death, he was employed by Bud Bailey Construction Co. of Salt Lake City. He always found satisfaction in repairing and building things in his workshop at home.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dick was a leader of youth in his earlier years. He served in a ward Bishopric, as a High Councilor, and for 25 years functioned as a Stake Patriarch. He also spent a number of years as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He was devoted to the Lord, the church, and his family all of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, sons, Richard B., Salt Lake; John Roger, Bountiful, a daughter, Ann Hamby, also of Bountiful. Dick leaves 19 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 1995 at 12 noon in the Bountiful 9th-31st Ward Meetinghouse at 585 East Center St., Bountiful. There will be a viewing for family and friends on Monday evening, March 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, in Bountiful. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the 9th/31st Ward Meetinghouse. Interment, Bountiful Cemetery.
