Lagoon will hold interviews for people ages 16 and older for work in its games department.

Government action

Davis County

At its meeting Wednesday, March 15, the Davis Council of Governments:

- Approved a grant request for $125,000 to fund the county's Safe Homes/Safe Schools program.

- Agreed to review how residents can by given access to the city's landfilll and burn plant during a general cleanup effort around the May 13 Take Pride in Utah program.

- Approved having cities fund the annual business appreciation lunch held in April during state economic development week.

Davis County Commission

At its March 22 meeting, the County Commission:

- Approved an agreement with Ecotone for $3,000 for the first phase of environmental and wetlands work on the Mutton Hollow detention basin in Kaysville.

- Announced the hiring of Kimberly Novak, Hooper, as director of the county's fairpark. The position is a six-month trial.

- Passed a resolution opposing the forced sale of Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton. The sale has been ordered by the FTC as part of the proposed merger of Columbia Health Systems and Health-trust.

Centerville

At its March 21 meeting, the City Council:

- Approved four street reconstruction projects totalling $235,000 this summer. The city has $283,000 budgeted for street projects, and the council will review the budget to see if more funds can be found for five other projects on the priority list.

- Approved an agreement with Roy and Alice DeVore trading property for improvements, including curb, gutter and sidewalk, along 400 West.

- Held a public hearing and approved changing the name of 1875 North to Canyon View Circle at the request of the residents. The street number will still appear on street signs to aid emergency response vehicles.

- Held a public hearing and approved a rezone request changing 7.9 acres at 200 West between Center and 300 North from R-3 to C-2.

- Held a public hearing and approved a request by Scott Bru-baker to amend his frontage road subdivision plat south of Parrish Lane. The amended plat splits one lot and will allow construction of a tire store.

- Held a public hearing to amend the subdivision plat of Country Cottages Subdivision at 100 S. Main. The amended plat reflects the placing of units in the project.

- Held a public hearing and approved a conditional-use permit allowing the Rocket Stop convenience store at 184 S. Main to open after filing a new landscaping plan.

Layton

In its March 16 meeting, the City Council:

- Set a meeting for today at 4:30 p.m. with residents of the Hill Villa subdivision, some of whom have been offered buyouts for commercial development.

- Discussed the city ordinance regulating the hours of operation for tavern owners. Put the item on the April 20 meeting agenda.

- Approved a special improvement district for a new waterline along 675 East, north of Highway 193.

- Awarded a bid of $439,000 to Bouchard Construction for a concrete 1.5-million-gallon water reservoir, just west of Hill Field Road at about 2600 North.

- Held a public hearing and approved annexing 0.6 acre owned by J&J Nursery at 428 S. 1200 East.

- Granted final approval to Tom's Marketplace commercial subdivision, four pads, at the northwest corner of Rosewood Lane and Fairfield Road. The land also includes a new Tom's Marketplace Store site.
