Onan Tolman Mecham, 84, of Syracuse, Utah, passed away at his home on March 26, 1995.

He was born April 17, 1910 in Riverdale, Idaho, a son of Leonidas Smart Mecham and Charlotte May Tolman.He married Nola Saville Davis, January 2, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death November 18, 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Olecia, Oma and brother, Devon; stepbrother, Elmo Higginson; stepsister, Rosetta Rawlins.

Surviving are five children, Nolan D., Blackfoot, ID.; Leon D., West Valley City; Gary D., Syracuse, Utah; Mrs. Kenneth (Carmen D.) Lords, Winnemucca, Nev.; Mrs. Richard (Rhea D.) Blake, St. Anthony ID; brother, Arlin T. and wife, Ruth, Bountiful; sisters-in-law, Janet Mecham, Salt Lake City; Enone Hardman, Salt Lake City; stepbrothers, Anson Higginson, Blackfoot, Idaho; Cyril Higginson, Mtn. Home, Idaho; Vea Munk and Clyde Higginson, St. George; 31 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

Onan was an active member of the LDS Church. He served 32 years in Scouting in addition to his service as a teacher, high councilor and bishop. In 1966 Onan received the All-Church Homer G. Warner award. In 1981 he was inducted into the Idaho High School Activities Assoc. Hall of Fame.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30, 1995, at 11 a.m., at the Syracuse 7th Ward chapel, 1625 South 1100 West with Bishop Layne Barber officiating. Friends may call Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State Street, and at the church on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
