Joseph Oscar Brewerton, age 77, died March 26, 1995 in a local hospital.

Born June 11, 1917 in Jackson, Idaho to Robert Henry and Mary Elizabeth Peterson Brewerton. Married Mary Eliza Davies on Sep. 14, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. Received his Medical Degree as a member of the first graduating class of the University of Utah Medical School in 1944. Undergraduate degree from U. of U., B.S. - Chemistry. Played Violin in the McCune School of Music Symphony Orchestra, forerunner of Utah Symphony. Served LDS Mission to the Netherlands 1937 to 1939, finished last six months of mission in Kansas due to the outbreak of World War II. Served as Physician in both World War II and Korean Conflict.While in private practice in Sugarhouse for 47 years, served as Salt Lake County Physician and Administrator for 20 years; District Surgeon, Union Pacific Rail Road Health Systems for 23 years. Staff member of LDS Hospital, Primary Childrens Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. Retired June of 1993. Past member of Sugarhouse Lions Club and Sugarhouse Rotary Club. Patron of Utah Symphony and Ballet West. Loved to fish, garden and travel. Organized Medical Clinic in Egypt for C.H.O.I.C.E.. Ham Radio Operator, KC7FAR.

Survived by: wife, Mary; children: Barbara Berlin, Brent (Evie) Brewerton, Kathleen (Jake) Garn, and Joanne (Lynn) Bello; grandchildren: Todd (Susan) Berlin, Shannon (Dan) Ahlstrom, Mikel (Wendy) Brewerton, Elisa Brewerton, Adam Brewerton, Chas Brewerton, Brook Bingham, Matthew Garn, Jennifer Garn, Lyndsey Bello and Joshua Bello; great-grandchilren: Joseph Andrew Brewerton and Emma Ahlstrom (due in May); son-in-law, Steven Berlin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30, 1995, at 12 Noon in the Parleys First Ward, 2350 South 2100 East. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, and Thursday at the ward from 10-11:30 a.m. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
