As police continue to sort out the dispute that led to the shooting death of a Magna man at a funeral Monday, Aaron Lee Greuber was laid to rest quietly, without audience.
It was at Greuber's funeral viewing that verbal barbs were exchanged and a fight ensued, culminating when a woman pulled a gun and fatally shot Greuber's father-in-law, 32-year-old Terry Stewart.Stewart died at the scene, of a single gunshot wound to the torso. Greuber's funeral at Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, was temporarily called off and he was later buried without incident.
Police arrested Charlotte Marleen Longshaw, 32, 1224 S. Navajo St., in connection with Stewart's slaying. The west Salt Lake woman remained jailed Wednesday for investigation of murder. No charges have been filed.
The feud among those present at the viewing apparently stemmed from Greuber's burial arrangements and his cause of death, West Jordan police believe. However, some of Greuber's relatives say the dispute went much deeper than that.
South Salt Lake police found the 34-year-old Greuber dead of an apparent drug overdose April 3 in the doorway of his home, located on Oakland Street adjacent to the police station. Family members have asked authorities to investigate his death, arguing that it appears suspicious.
Autopsy results are pending, South Salt Lake detective Dave Browning said.
Greuber and his extended family are no strangers to police. South Salt Lake officers have responded to drunken fights at the home on numerous occasions. In fact, the night before he died, Greuber argued with his wife, Teresa, who then left the area with their children, Browning said.
Police are also investigating the recent theft of Greuber's car. Several of the dead man's relatives have also come forward to claim his belongings, Browning said.
However, all items will remain at the house, sealed off with yellow police tape, until the investigation is concluded, the detective said.
