Q. Where does the word "news" come from? Is it north, east, west, south?

A. "News" is not an acronym of north, east, west and south. "News" is derived from the Latin word "novus" and Greek "newos." From Latin we get "nova," "a new star," and from Greek we get "neon,"a "new" gas when it was first discovered. The root is related to the Germanic "nu," which means "now."
