Salt Lake City International has won second place in a competition recognizing airports with excellent snow and ice removal.
The International Aviation Snow Symposium awarded Detroit International Airport first place in the large hub airport category, which includes facilities that have more than 75,000 scheduled air carrier operations each year.It is the 10th time Salt Lake's airport has been honored in the competition, including four times it placed first.
"This was an unusual weather year for Salt Lake City with most of the annual snowfall happening in just one month - November," said Louis Miller, executive director of the Salt Lake City Airport Authority. "The intense period tested our systems and resources and, once again, we maintained an open airport despite the conditions."
