Forty-seven years ago, Harry Truman and Thomas Dewey were competing to head the nation as U.S. president.

At the same time - admittedly in a less-heralded event - four music student freshmen entered Butler Univeristy in Indianapolis. They discovered a shared love of music, and instead of continuing their formal education, they began an education on the road as The Four Freshmen.Despite the fact that the original four singers have retired or died, The Four Freshmen sound can still be heard nearly half a century later, in Orem May 22 and 23 at the SCERA Shell.

Bob Flanigan is in semi-retirement due to his health. Hal Kratzch and Don Barbour are deceased and Ross Barbour left the group. The new freshmen class includes Mike Beisner, Bob Ferriera, Greg Stegman and Kevin Stout.

Showtime is 8 p.m. and $8 advance tickets are available between 10-5 weekdays by calling 225-2569 or 226-3603 or dropping by the SCERA Showhouse main office.

The Four Freshmen concert is also part of the Shell's 16-event season ticket, on sale through May 31 for $27.75 for adults and $15.75 for children ages 3-11.

The Four Freshmen have been favorites on college campuses. Although they never got past their formal freshmen year, they are honorary graduates of the University of Hawaii, honorary members of the University of Texas "Longhorn" Band, and honorary members of more than one sorority as well as the TKE fraternity.
