Joseph Rowland Morrell, Jr., 86, who died May 23, 1995, at his home in San Francisco, California, was born in Ogden, Utah, to Dr. Joseph R. and Jeanette McKay Morrell.
He was educated in the Ogden City schools and Weber Junior College, and after filling a mission in Germany for the LDS Church, went on to the University of Utah, where he received a BA degree. Later he earned a Master's degree in Social Welfare at the University of Chicago. Based in San Francisco, he acted as Regional Representative for the Bureau of Public Assistance of the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare, for the territory from Alaska to Hawaii.Joe married Patricia Healy, of San Jose, California, and they made their home near the ocean, where they spent their free time roaming up and down the coast, seal watching, bird watching and absorbing California history.
They were the parents of three children, for whom Joe was a loving and caring father. He always made friends easily because of his sincere interest in people, and his particularly delightful sense of humor.
Joe is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Michael Rowland, Benman Island, B.C., Canada; Stephen Healy, Mt. Shasta, Calif.; one daughter, Claire and husband, Jeff Brady, Evanston, Ill.; two grandchildren, Thomas Morrell and Amanda Brady; one sister, Jeannette Morrell, Salt Lake City.
