It's high tide for Denzel Washington.

The Oscar-winning actor says his role in the movie "Crimson Tide" gave him the long-awaited chance to work with Gene Hackman."He's a master," Washington said in an interview with the New York Daily News. "I knew he would be challenging me, and that's what I live for. I knew I had to bring more to the table than just my appetite."

In the thriller "Crimson Tide," Washington plays the executive officer of a nuclear submarine and Hackman is the captain. They are authorized to launch a missile strike, but Washington balks when the sub receives a garbled communication that may call off the strike.
