Alliant Techsystems and Thiokol Corp. received a $123 million contract to produce propulsion systems for the U.S. Navy's Trident II intercontinental ballistic missile, the companies said Monday.
The contract - which has options that could increase its value to $200 million - was awarded by Lockheed Missiles & Space Co. The Lockheed Martin Corp. unit makes the Trident missiles for the Navy.Under the contract, the Alliant-Thiokol team will produce all three propulsion stages of the rocket motors for the submarine-launched missile. Previously, the team had produced only the first and second stages.
Work will be performed at Alliant Techsystems' rocket motor production facility in Bacchus and at Thiokol's defense and launch vehicle facility in Brigham City.
Alliant is based in Minneapolis. Thiokol has headquarters in Ogden.
