Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Ethel Joy "Joyce" Mares, 68, of Salt Lake City, died June 26, 1995.
She was born April 23, 1927 in Wheatland, Wyoming to Jerry and Elva Santistevan Barela.She married Martin Mares on August 19, 1945. Later divorced. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She retired from Unisys in 1991.
She was a devoted mother and a friend to all. She will be missed by everyone around her.
Joyce is survived by three sons, Marty (Camille) Mares of Midvale, Utah; Roger (Shirley) Mares of Salt Lake City; and Bill (Shauna) Mares of West Valley City; daughter, Linda (Charles) Poeppelmeier of St. Louis, Missouri; three brothers, Jesse (Lola) Barela of Laramie, Wyo.; Richard (Connie) Barela of Victoria, Texas; and Archie (Charlotte) Barela of Laramie, Wyo.; two sisters, Genevieve (Gilbert) Vigil of Garden Grove, Calif.; and Ruby (Rudy) Sanchez of Laramie, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Trujillo.
The family wishes to thank Community Nursing Service and Hospice.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 North. A vigil service will be held Thursday, 7 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call 6-7 p.m. Committal Redwood Mem. Estates.
