Woods Cross

In its June 20 meeting, the City Council:

- Set a hearing for July 18 on the appeal of a planning commission decision by Apple Foodstore on a metal storage building.

- Reappointed Ann Blan-ken-ship to the planning commission and Shirley Wall to the board of adjustments.

- Held a public hearing and approved the 1995-96 budget and adjustments for the current year's budget. The general fund budget for next year was increased by $17,000 to cover costs of more crossing guards and street signs due to reduced school busing.

- Approved an increase in the garbage collection fees - effective next month - because of higher costs at the burn plant. The new fees beginning in July will increase from $12 to $14 a month for the first garbage container and from $3 to $4 for the second can.

- Approved a new 15-year franchise agreement with TCI Cable-vi-sion.

- Continued the process to update city codes and bring them into compliance with state codes by re-working Titles 1-3 of the Woods Cross Code.

Davis School District

In its June 20 meeting, the school board:

- Approved a one-year trial contract with Brodart/CRS Incorporated for an automated substitute teacher telephone response system for $39,700. With the system, teachers could find a substitute teacher with just one phone call.

- Approved the transfer of Clyde Jackson, assistant principal at Viewmont High, to be an assistant at Davis High. He replaces Scott Tennis.

- Approved Vickie Ingram, assistant principal at East High, to replace Clyde Jackson at View-mont.

- Approved the following teachers for one-year terms as administrative interns: Alan Jensen at Centerville Junior High; Bryan Bowles at Millcreek Junior High; Jay Welk and Russell Jones at Davis High; Myra Mayes at Layton High; Cathy Bell at Northridge High; and Ken Jones at Viewmont High.

- Honored Sydnee Dickson, principal at Centerville's Jenny P. Stewart Elementary School, for outstanding service.

- Recognized Garvin E. Carlile, area director for the school district, who is retiring after 37 years of service.

- Approved an alternate schedule for Hill Field Elementary.

- Approved an easement for the property of the Hilltop School, near Hill Air Force Base, to the Division of Community Development. The six acres will be protected in the flight path area so that no school will be held on the land. The district is still free to sell the land or use it for transportation, storage or other limited uses. The district will receive approximately $90,000 for the easement rights.
