Kyle Magnusson earned a new moniker Saturday - "The Hit Man."
The Larry H. Miller Toyota shortstop and leadoff hitter went six-for-nine in three games Saturday at the Champion of Diamonds Park. And when the tablesetter does that, good things will happen to your ball club.
And they did for Miller Toyota. The Salt Lake City-based team won three games in the Team Ford/Bud Light ASA national men's fastpitch qualifying tournament.
Miller (25-2), behind Peter Meredith's two-hit pitching, shut out Minot N.D., 6-0, in its first game.
Then, Miller Toyota bombed Stone Container of Sioux City, 14-1, and slipped past the Sioux City Soos, 3-0.
Magnusson went 3-for-3 against his old club - Minot - and set the table with three more hits, scoring four runs against Stone Container.
He also got help from Brandon Burt, who had a three-run home run against Minot, and a two-run shot against the Soos.
"Brandon gave me a big lift," said pitcher Dewayne Dyck, who hurled a three-hitter against the 21-6 Soos. "He just added to the complete effort we had in all three games today."
