The U.S. Senate on Friday unanimously confirmed Tena Campbell to her appointment to the U.S. District Court bench in Utah.

Campbell will be the first woman in the state to become a federal judge.A U.S. assistant attorney in Utah since 1982, she was appointed to the judgeship by President Clinton on June 22. She was quickly endorsed by the Senate Judiciary Committee before her confirmation.

"She will be an asset to the federal judiciary and to the people of Utah," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, who chairs the Judiciary Committee.
