A South African exploration driller strangled a leopard with his bare hands after the beast attacked him in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana.

Frik van Heerden, 37, said the animal pounced on him while he walked from his trailer home to his office in the Kutse Reserve, about 155 miles from the Botswana capital Gaborone."I was between the two trailers when I heard a noise and turned around when the leopard attacked me," he said at his home in the South African town of Bothaville, where he is recovering from the attack 10 days ago.

He said he shouted for help from his wife, Alta, and two sons who watched helplessly as he wrestled with the animal.
