A double bogey could have destroyed Dicky Pride's first round at the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. Instead, he ended his day with four birdies in five holes.
After hitting two trees and a sand bunker on one of the PGA Tour's toughest holes, Pride finished impressively Thursday to finish with a 6-under-par 66. He is one stroke behind first-round leader David Peoples."It's a game of mistakes and I made one on No. 4. I miscalculated and paid for it," Pride said. "I obviously didn't do what I needed to do. But I kept myself composed and left it behind me."
Peoples, who hasn't won since the 1992 Anheuser-Busch Classic, had a bogey-free round Thursday. Kirk Triplett was tied with Pride at 66, while five players were two shots back after opening-rounds 67s.
Ninety-five players shot par or better at the 7,157-yard Annandale course. There were 78 players under par going into today's second round.
