Paul Edward Sovelius, 71, Sandy, Utah, passed away July 3, 1995, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Paul was born October 16, 1923 in, Chicago, Illinois, to Boris and Edla Niss Sovelius. After graduating from Sullivan High School in Chicago, he joined the armed forces and served during World War II. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division.He took his mountain climbing and skiing training in the high Rocky Mountains at Camp Hale, Colorado. He served in the Italian Theater of War. He met his wife, Edith B. Marshall, in Los Angeles, Calif. They were married April 2, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Paul attended the University of Utah and graduated from the Utah Technical College, Salt Lake City, as a journeyman carpenter and soon became a master carpenter. He took pride in the beautiful homes, commercial buildings and churches he helped to construct.
Paul is survived by his wife, Edith; three sons, Paul Jr. (Sandy), The Woodlands, Texas; Brace Henry and Daniel James, Sandy, Utah; three grandsons, Michael Paul, David James and Ryan Christopher, The Woodlands, Texas; brother, Raymond (Ruth), Portsmith, Va.; sister, Ethel (Birger) Vorselman, Helsinki, Finland; nephews, Steven (Audra) Sovelius, Norfolk, Va.; and Torvald and Goran Ecklund, Helsinki, Finland.
Graveside services Friday, July 7, 1995, at 12 noon at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 So. Camp Williams Road. Friends may call Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State.
