CANDIDATE'S CAMPAIGN FINANCES IN DISARRAY

The presidential campaign of Republican Alan Keyes has written $20,000 in bad checks and is unable to account for a $38,000 cash balance it had in June, the Washington Post reported Thursday, citing a senior Keyes adviser.

The paper said Bill Kling, Keyes' spokesman, blamed the campaign's former finance director for most of the problems and said the bad checks would be covered.Kling said the financial problems were first detected several weeks ago and finance director Alan Rocker was given two weeks to straighten out the books.

Rocker soon resigned, refusing to turn over the books or his computer codes for the campaign's finances, the paper reported.

Kling said he expected the campaign to get its finances in order soon, the Post said.
