Our beloved, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Edna Pearl Hanks Towers, age 81, passed away peacefully August 10, 1995, in Salt Lake City.
Edna was born September 11, 1913, in Salem, Utah, the daughter of George Edward and Christine Bergitti Olsen Hanks. She graduated from BYU and taught school in Spanish Fork, Utah, until her marriage to John Max Towers on August 18, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. John preceded her in death on July 2, 1993. An active member of the LDS Church, she served in many positions, including Relief Society President, and costume coordinator for many plays and road shows. She was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.She enjoyed making homemade candies and hand dipped chocolates, as well as cooking and gardening. She never threw away a black banana. Edna was a great help to John in his many business ventures and was a kind and loving individual who was devoted to her family. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her passing saddens our hearts and leaves a great void in our lives.
Survivors include one son and two daughters, Karen (James) Pugmire, David J. (Myrna) Towers, Renee (Gary) Stevens, daughter-in-law, Carolyn, all Salt Lake; 15 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Gary.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 14, 1995, 12 noon, at the Rosecrest First Ward, 3101 South 2300 East. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Funeral Chapel.
