A Brigham City man is dead after a standoff with police that ended in gunfire.
Brian Anderson, 38, was shot and killed by police when he charged them with a shotgun Saturday, said a Brigham City police press release. The incident began Friday when Anderson and his ex-wife became involved in a domestic dispute, said the release. Early Saturday morning, Anderson told his brother and stepdaughter he was going to the woman's house to burn it down.
Police arrived at the home, 152 S. 2nd East, and watched Anderson break into a backyard shed and pull out a container of gasoline before re-entering the house, the report said.
SWAT teams arrived and attempted to negotiate with Anderson to no avail, according to the report. About 7 p.m. police shot tear gas into the house and were surprised when Anderson emerged and pointed a 12-gauge shotgun at one of the officers in a threatening manner.
Before Anderson pulled the trigger, he was gunned down by two other officers, said the report. The two officers were put on administrative leave until Monday, when a debriefing will be conducted.
