Free genealogy and family history classes for genealogists of all levels will be offered Sept. 10 and 24 at the Utah Valley Family History Center located on the fourth floor of Brigham Young University's Harold B. Lee Library.
The center is open the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. as well as weekdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. The public is invited to attend the free classes taught by genealogy research consultants. For registration and additional information, call the center at 378-6200.One-hour research classes Sept. 10 include a TempleReady class at 10 a.m., stake/ward consultant training at 10 a.m., intermediate research at 11 a.m., basic research at 2 p.m., publishing a family history from PAF using GenBook at 3 p.m., and BYU research resources at 5 p.m. A 90-minute class on Spanish research will be at 4:30 p.m.
One-hour research classes Sept. 24 include basic research at 11 a.m., intermediate research at 2 p.m., stake/ward consultant training at 3 p.m., temple names preparation at 4 p.m., Asian research at 5 p.m. and a U.S. Census class titled "Why Didn't I Find My Ancestors?" at 5 p.m.
Ninety-minute research classes on Sept. 24 include Spanish research at 4:30 p.m. and "How to Start and Publish a Family Newsletter" at 5 p.m.
One-hour computer classes Sept. 10 include IBM PAF entering and correcting names at 11 a.m., IBM PAF focus lists and TempleReady at 11 a.m., IBM PAF match/merge at 2 p.m., IBM PAF entering and correcting names at 3 p.m., IBM shortcuts I at 3 p.m., Ancestral File on computer at 3:30 p.m., IBM shortcuts II at 4 p.m., a Macintosh PAF class at 4 p.m., and a Spanish PAF workshop at 4:30 p.m.
One-hour computer classes Sept. 24 include genealogy research on the Internet at 10:30 a.m., IBM PAF notes and documentation at 11 a.m., creating a Home Ancestral File at 11 a.m., basic Windows for beginners at 1 p.m., IBM PAF entering and correcting names at 2 p.m., IBM PAF focus design and reports at 3 p.m., and a Spanish PAF workshop at 4:30 p.m.
Ninety-minute computer classes Sept. 10 include use of IGI on home computers at 9:30 a.m., IGI on computer at 2 p.m., IBM PAF enhanced GEDCOM multiple data bases at 4 p.m., and a basic overview of computers and PAF for beginners at 5 p.m.
Ninety-minute computer classes Sept. 24 include creating a GEDCOM file at 9:30 a.m., searching vital records using "automated archives" on CD at 9:30 a.m., basic DOS and computer use for beginners at 5 p.m., and FHLC on computer at 5 p.m.
