Glen Hnatiuk made a 6-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff with Franklin Langham and Harry Rudolph to win the Nike Utah Classic on Sunday.
Hnatiuk, who earned $36,000 to move to 14th on the money list with $87,403, closed with a 2-under-par 70 to tie Langham and Rudolph at 13-under 203 on the Riverside Country Club course."My tee shot on the playoff hole hit a power wire and that has never happened to me before," Hnatiuk said. "The shot was just perfect and I just regrouped and hit the same shot again. My third shot was an 8-iron to 6 feet for the win."
Bill Murchison shot a 71 to finish two back.
Jerry Kelly tied for 10th at 209 to earn $3,633 and regain the top spot on the money list with $158,098. The top 10 players on the list earn exemptions for the 1996 PGA Tour.
At Kenmore, Wash., Walter Morgan won his first Senior PGA Tour title Sunday, shooting a 5-under-par 67 for a three-stroke victory over Dave Stockton in the GTE Northwest Classic.
Morgan, 54, who first played golf at age 26 while stationed in Hawaii with the Army, had a 13-under 203 total on the 6,440-yard Inglewood County Club course. Stockton, who the tournament in 1993, closed with a 68.
At Oakville, Ontario, hard-charging Mark O'Meara played mistake-free golf in a stirring match with his friend Bob Lohr, winning the Canadian Open when Lohr bogeyed the first playoff hole Sunday.
It was the second PGA Tour victory of the season for the unflappable O'Meara, who shot a bogey-free, final-round 67 for 14-under-par 274 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in the suburbs of Toronto.
