Alvin Jasper Myers, 78, of North Ogden, died Sunday, September 10, 1995 at the McKay-Dee Hospital, of a heart attack.
He was born July 14, 1917, in Ogden, Utah, a son of Benson Harris and Estella Holmes Myers. He married Fay Chatelain on October 9, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died September 10, 1988.He married Ina T. Van Tassell on April 7, 1994 in North Ogden.
He graduated from Weber High School and was a lifetime resident of Weber County. He bought his father's farm in Wilson in 1940 and lived there until 1994, when he moved to North Ogden.
He went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1940 as a locomotive engineer, retiring in 1982. He received a plaque for 42 years of injury and accident free service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Union.
Dad belonged to the Golden Spike Empire Vintage Car Club. He collected and restored antique cars and won numerous awards at the car shows. He enjoyed driving his antique cars in the various parades.
He was a High Priest in the Ben Lomond 6th LDS Ward. He had served as home teacher and on the Old Folks Committee in the Wilson 1st Ward for many years. He was a temple worker at the Ogden Temple from 1985 to 1989. He served at the McKay-Dee Hospital as a volunteer worker for four years.
Dad loved to hunt pheasants and always kept a bird dog at the farm. He was a generous and kind man, outgoing and friendly, and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people.
He was a good father, husband, and brother, and loved his wife, sons, grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, with an unconditional love.
Survivors include his wife, Ina of North Ogden; three sons, Reed A. (Janice) Myers, South Ogden; Ronald B. Myers, Taylor; Ray C. Myers, Minneapolis, Minn.; the following stepchildren, Myrl (Brent) Chugg, North Ogden; Owen (Margie) Van Tassell, Jessup (Luci) Van Tassell, both of Tabiona; Kevin (Janice) Van Tassell, Vernal; four grandchildren, DeLyn (Michael) Bouck, Smithfield; Darin (Angie) Myers, Ogden; Ryan Myers, serving in the England Manchester Mission; and Kevin Myers, South Ogden; 21 step grandchildren and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers and one sister, Sylvester (Grace) Myers, Laguna Beach, Calif.; David (Mary) Myers, South Weber; Lawrence (Louisa) Myers, Salt Lake City; John Vernon (Evelyn) Myers, Sunset; and Louise Mortensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, one step daughter, and one step-grandson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 16, 1995 at 11 a.m. in the Ben Lomond 4th-10th Ward Chapel, 3352 North 1050 East, North Ogden, with Bishop Brian Russell officiating.
Friends may call at the Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, at the church, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment in the Ben Lomond North Ogden Cemetery.
