Alice Nelson Cannon celebrated her 95th birthday on September 27, 1996 with her family and friends on this earth. She is celebrating it again on the other side as she passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 28th.

Alice was born on September 27, 1901 in Salt Lake City, the only daughter of Joseph and Leonora Smith Nelson. She graduated from LDS High School and the University of Utah. She enjoyed reading, the theater, and the arts. As a child she enjoyed playing at Saltair which was owned by her father.She devoted her life to her children and the children of the community. She reached out with love, a joyful spirit, and represented an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She taught elementary school, served as PTA President of the Salt Lake City Council, and was the Women's Legislative Council. A life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served 50 years in the Primary as well as serving in Young Women and Relief Society. She and her husband, John, were temple workers and served in the North British mission upon his retirement.

She married John Bennion Cannon on September 17, 1924 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1983. They are the parents of eight children and the progenitors of 47 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

She is survived by Elaine (Ivan) Nichols, John N. (Margaret) Cannon, Alice (DuWayne) Schmidt, Ruth (Larry) Siebers, Anne Cannon, Richard N. (Ella Rene) Cannon, and Joseph N. (Dixie) Cannon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Joseph, George, Alvin and Franklin; a daughter, Leonora (Emerson) Cannon and grandson, John M. Cannon.

The viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 1996 from 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4th, at the Colonial Hills Ward, 1455 So. 1700 East, in Salt Lake City beginning at 12 noon. Friends may call at the ward from 10:30-11:45 a.m. before the funeral. Interment Redwood Memorial Estates.
