The FBI is going as deep into the south as it possibly can to make an arrest: Antarctica.
Three FBI field agents are due to arrive Sunday at the U.S. station on McMurdo Sound to apprehend a suspect in an assault case, according to a copy of an announcement obtained by The Associated Press. An FBI spokesman refused to comment, but the trip would be the first time that federal law enforcement officials were sent to investigate a crime in the Antarctic.
The agents are expected to arrest a galley cook who attacked another with the claw end of a hammer, according to the announcement by Stan Wisneski, area manager for Antarctic Support Associates, the company that staffs and supplies the station.
