John F. Kennedy Jr. reportedly signed a prenuptial agreement with Carolyn Bessette that guarantees her at least $1 million if they divorce within the next three years.
The longer they remain married, the more she would receive if they eventually divorced, The Mail reported Sunday. The legal pact with the sliding scale of payments was drafted 12 days before their wedding, the weekly London tabloid said.
The 35-year-old son of the late President John F. Kennedy married Bessette in a secret ceremony in Cumberland Island, Ga., on Sept. 21. The couple spent their honeymoon in Turkey.
If the couple were to divorce after three to 10 years of marriage, she would receive $2 million; after 10 years, the figure would increase to $3 million, the newspaper said.
