"Where there was once division, there is unity and a sense of direction."

That tribute was paid to Carvel V. Magleby by officials of the Six-County Association of Governments in connection with his retirement after 19 years as executive director. He was honored at an open house.The new director is Russell Cowley of Richfield. He has been director of the Six-County Economic Development District. His successor has not been announced.

The Six-County Association and Economic Development District includes the south-central Utah counties of Sanpete, Sevier, Wayne, Piute, Millard and Juab.

Magleby was elevated to executive director in 1980 after three years with the AOG but continued his responsibilities as director of employment and training.

During his tenure as director of the organization, he coordinated activities and responsibilities of its programs, departments and the staff. These included human resources, aging, job training, economic development, public health, mental health, weatherization and programs that helped low income and elderly residents in the Six-County Area.
