Jack Meikle passed away at home surrounded by family, due to cancer, on Tuesday, October 15, 1996, just two days short of his 84th birthday. He was born on October 17, 1912 in Smithfield, Utah, the ninth of 12 children, to John Henry and Susie Hind Meikle. He married Kathleen Hurst on November 15, 1933 in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. They became proud parents of a son, John Roger and a daughter, Mellanee.

In the 1930's and early 1940's, Jack worked as a heavy equipment operator on road and highway construction in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. He was a maintenance foreman for the Utah Department of Highways. Since then, until retirement, his chief occupation was raising sheep and turkeys, and dealing in livestock. He moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1967.Jack loved his family and took great pride in their accomplishments. He loved his neighbors as family and was known as the "neighborhood watch". He found great pleasure in growing and sharing his garden. Everyone who knew Jack would agree, he was a character without equal.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, his son John Roger (Dianne), his daughter Mellanee (Lloyd) Kilpack, twelve grandchildren; Todd, Tyler, Tami, and Torri Meikle, Travis (Jean) Kilpack, Corey John (Shannon) Kilpack, Joshua (Michelle) Kilpack, Kami (Roger) Phillips, Meghan (Matt) Doelling, Carter (Aubrey) Kilpack, Christopher and Abby Kilpack, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Don (Marie) Meikle, Smithfield, Utah, and three sisters, Mary Hedin, Bountiful, Utah; Gwen Hillyard, Logan, Utah , and Bessie (Joe) Parson, Casas Grandes, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 1996 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main. Friends may call Friday evening at the mortuary from 6 - 8 p.m. and again Saturday morning from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Gravesite dedication will be held at 2 p.m. at the Smithfield City Cemetery.
