Two American women working for the Peace Corps died Friday after being swept away by a raging river in Honduras, the U.S. embassy said.

This Central American country has been subject to intense flooding from unrelenting rain the past two weeks, leaving four Hondurans dead.The embassy said it could not identify the women or provide their hometowns pending notification of their families.

The accident occurred near the town of Union, about 90 miles east of Tegucigalpa.
