Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, age 91, passed away Oct. 29, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a wonderful example of love, integrity, dedication and hard work and will be greatly missed by his family.
He was born May 3, 1905 in Salt Lake City to Thomas and Ada Ranck Newman, the oldest of seven children. He married Olive Barron, June 1, 1926 and they spent 70 happy years together. He began his career in printing as the owner of Beacon Press in Salt Lake on colorful Regent Street and later moved the business to 2nd South near 2nd East. He retired from printing to follow his dream of building homes. He built many homes and condominiums in the Holladay area. Retired from building, he and Olive spent several years traveling and enjoying life. Ever a creative person, he spent his time exploring new ideas. His interests included photography, reading, woodwork and chemistry. He was a long-time member of both the Lions Club and the Elks Lodge. His greatest love was his wife, family and friends. They spent many wonderful times together.He is survived by his wife, Olive; children, Richard D. (Ariel) Newman and Marilyn (Richard) Leahy; brother, Robert Newman; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Wardle, Lucile Brown and Lydia Robinson; brother-in-law, Joseph Barron; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald L. Newman and a great-grandson, David Hart. His many brothers, sisters and in-laws, were a great source of happiness to him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996 at 12 Noon in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Drive, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
