She claimed she was just upset, but a Scottish jury ruled Friday that Princess Diana's mother was driving drunk.

Frances Shand Kydd, who lives on an island off Scotland's western coast, was banned from driving for a year and fined $675 for driving with more than 21/2 times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood.Shand Kydd, who divorced Diana's father when Diana was a child, told the court she had been upset after receiving a special delivery letter April 5, the day she was stopped. The sender and contents were not disclosed.

The constable who stopped her car said she mumbled incoherently and staggered when he asked her to get out.
