Weekly honors
WAC FOOTBALL: BYU freshman running back Ronney Jenkins was named WAC Mountain Division offensive player of the week. Jenkins ran for 156 yards and three TDs to lead BYU's strong ground attack as the No. 7 Cougars clinched the division title with a 37-17 victory over Utah.
BIG SKY FOOTBALL: Weber State linebacker Naki Pilivi was named the conference's defensive player of the week. The 6-foot senior from the Tongan Islands recorded six total tackles, half of which were solo stops. He added a quarterback sack, two more tackles for a loss and a goal-line interception and 41-yard return in Weber State's 37-22 win over Idaho State.
WAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: BYU guard Renae Hansen was named WAC Mountain Division player of the week, with the freshman leading the Cougars in scoring with 22 points in a 78-73 loss against 17th-ranked Colorado.
Hansen hit 9-of-13 shots from the field - including all three three-pointers - and added three rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING: The BYU women's swim team finished second in two separate meets against Arizona State and Colorado State over the weekend in Tempe, Ariz.
Despite swimming in a pouring rainstorm in Friday's dual meet, the Cougars managed a final score of 110 which put them behind ASU at 201.
Despite the loss to the Sun Devils, BYU was pleased with its unofficial victory over WAC rival CSU 159-142.
Sarah McKeever paced BYU by winning the 200 fly (2:04.82) and the 200 IM (2:07.04). Cherrill Haws finished first in the 1650 free with a time of 16:49.93. The Cougars dominated the diving competition, winning both the 1- meter (Laurel Bisk, 284.05) and the 3-meter (Cristina Conn. 284.80).
In Saturday's Invitational, BYU's score of 428 was sandwiched between first-place ASU at 438 and CSU at 422. McKeever came away with first place in the 200 free (1:53.48), while Haws won the 500 free (4:57.47). Again, BYU's Julie Parkinson winning both the 1-meter (297.70) and the 3-meter (313.80) diving.
MEN'S CLUB SOCCER: BYU defeated Baylor 1-0 in Saturday's final of the 1996 Collegiate Club championship in Austin, Texas. Spencer Viernes scored BYU's game-wining goal.
BYU beat Northern Colorado 10-1 in the quarterfinals and Oregon 3-0 in the semifinals. In pool play, BYU didn't allow any goals in wins over Texas, North Carolina and Colorado State. The team finished the year with a 17-1-4 record and No. 1 cub ranking.
BYU's Roger Seaman was named tournament MVP, while teammates Jon Lovell, Nathan Morris and Brad Peterson received all-tournament honors.
Utah
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Coming off an impressive 73-54 opening win over Montana, the Utah women's basketball team takes on Weber State tonight in the Huntsman Center at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are 0-2 after losing a pair to St. Joseph's and Northern Iowa in a tournament in Nevada last week.
The Utes are led by Julie Krommenhoek, Hiliary King-Noel and Alli Bills, while the Wildcats are led by Stephanie Sorensen, a transfer from San Diego State, who scored 26 points last week.
Last year, the Wildcats knocked off the Utes 61-59 in Ogden.
The Utes will play in a tournament in Oregon this weekend, meeting Yale on Friday night.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The University of Utah women's tennis team has announced the signing of Heidi Thomas to a letter of intent. Thomas played her high school tennis at Davis High, where she was the 1996 Utah 5A state champion at No. 1 singles. She will begin play for the Utes next season.
Southern Utah
FOOTBALL: Offensive coordinator C. Ray Gregory has resigned, accepting a coaching position at Georgia Southern. He spent two years on the staff there in the late 1980s, helping the Eagles to a pair of NCAA I-AA playoff berths and a 1988 finalist spot.
FOOTBALL: SUU offensive tackle Curtis Cook has been named to the GTE Academic All-District VII football team. The 6-foot-6 junior from Price, who majors in physics and minors in math, carries a 3.692 GPA.
