A University of Utah student accused of possessing alcohol in a dormitory and then pulling a gun on resident advisers was charged Monday in 3rd District Court.

A student, 26, was found with a bottle of whisky in an Austin Hall dorm room on Oct. 10, court documents say.Resident advisers, citing housing rules prohibiting alcohol, told him to remove the bottle, court documents say. But he instead pulled a pistol, which he swung and pointed at the advisers.

A witness says the student hid the pistol on top of a covered parking lot as police approached, the documents say.

A campus police officer discovered a .45-caliber handgun with eight rounds in the clip atop the covered parking area, court documents say.

The U. junior, who is majoring in English, was charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and possession of a firearm on or about school premises, a Class A misdemeanor.
