The director of Brigham Young University's Center for the Study of Values in Organizations at the Marriott School of Management has been elected president of the Academy of Management.

David A. Whetten will serve a five-year term with the academy and will be a member of its board of governors. A professional association for business school faculty, the Academy of Management consists of approximately 10,000 members from 80 countries.Whetten has received several honors and served in many capacities within the organization. He was editor of the Academy of Management Review, is an Academy Fellow and was awarded the Academy's Distinguished Service Award.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology from BYU before obtaining his doctorate in organizational behavior from Cornell University. Whetting taught at the University of Illinois 20 years before joining the BYU faculty in 1994.
