At first glance, "A Step Toward Tomorrow" (Sunday, 8 p.m., Ch. 2) looks like just another disease-of-the-week TV movie. But, as it turns out, this is a pretty darn good teleflick.

Judity Light ("Who's the Boss?") stars as a determined single mother whose younger son (Kendall Cunningham) has been confined to a wheel chair since being injured in a diving accident. She fights for her boy against doctors and insurance companies - and, along the way, falls in love with one particular doctor (Tom Irwin). But the one thing she hasn't noticed is the guilt that her older son (Tim Redwine) feels over his brother's accident.

On, and there's a cameo appearance by Christopher Reeve in his first acting role since being paralyzed in a horse riding accident.

"Step" is a nicely made movie that's touching without becoming maudlin.
