Ron Hextall made 24 saves and the Philadelphia Flyers extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games with their fourth straight shutout, 4-0 over the slumping St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Hextall has two of the four shutouts, while backup Garth Snow has the other two. The Flyers have outscored the opposition 19-0 during the shutout run.The Blues are 0-2 since they replaced coach Mike Keenan with Jim Roberts. They are 0-5-1 in their last six games.
Bruins 4, Capitals 3
At Boston, Rob DiMaio scored his second goal of the game with 56 seconds left as Boston extended its winning streak to a season-best three games.
It was tied 3-3 with a faceoff to the left of the Washington net when Adam Oates backhanded the puck to Jozef Stumpel, who put a shot on goal. The rebound came out to DiMaio, who slid it under a diving Jim Carey to give Boston the win.
Rob Tallas, making his first start of the season because Bill Ranford has the flu, stopped 28 shots for his first victory. Rookie Steve Staios scored his first NHL goal and Sheldon Kennedy also scored for Boston.
Stars 3, Islanders 2
At Uniondale, N.Y., Joe Nieuwendyk's goal with 1:45 left gave the Dallas Stars their fourth straight victory, all on the road.
Derek Armstrong tied the game with 4:41 remaining when he one-timed a rebound of Dan Plante's shot past goalie Andy Moog. Marty McInnis scored the other goal for the Islanders.
Todd Harvey and Richard Matvichuk scored for Dallas, which got 19 saves from Andy Moog. Tommy Salo had 26 saves for the Islanders.
Whalers 6, Lightning 5, OT
At Hartford, Conn., Robert Kron scored 2:11 into overtime, giving the Hartford Whalers a victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Whalers remained unbeaten in overtime this season at 2-0-6.
Kron skated into the right circle and fired a hard wrist shot that beat Lightning goalie Rick Tabaracci to the near side.
Hartford's Andrew Cassels tied the game at 5 at 9:18 of the third period. He had a goal and two assists.
Penguins 3, Sharks 1
At Pittsburgh, Mario Lemieux scored a goal and set up J.J. Daigneault's game-winner in the third period as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the San Jose Sharks.
The Penguins are on a 10-2-2 streak that has lifted them above .500 (16-15-3) for the second time this season. The Sharks have lost a season-high four straight.
Pittsburgh rookie goalie Patrick Lalime stopped 32 shots.
Rangers 3, Canadiens 2, OT
At Montreal, Luc Robitaille scored off Wayne Gretzky's behind-the-net pass 42 seconds into overtime, giving the streaking New York Rangers a victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
Mike Richter stopped 27 shots as New York improved to 9-1-1 in its last 11 games. Ulf Samuelsson and Niklas Sundstrom scored for the Rangers, each one-timing Gretzky passes from behind the Canadiens net.
New York won at Montreal for the first time in 10 regular-season games. The Rangers hadn't beaten the Canadiens on the road since Oct. 5, 1991, going 0-8-1.
Mark Recchi scored his team-leading 15th goal for Montreal and Vincent Damphousse added a power-play score, just his second goal in 14 games.
Sabres 3, Senators 2
At Kanata, Ontario, Buffalo's Mike Peca stole the puck from Ottawa's Janne Laukkanen and scored unassisted at 8:32 of the third period to lift the Sabres over Ottawa.
The Sabres, who have been outshot in all but three of their 34 games this season, got 27 saves from Dominik Hasek for their fourth straight win.
Ottawa's Steve Duchesne thought he had tied the score with 46 seconds left, but his goal was disallowed because two of his teammates were in Hasek's crease.
