Georg Hans "Werner" Koenig, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went back to live with his heavenly friends and loved ones on December 19, 1996. After fighting cancer for 13 years, he died from complications due to a heart attack.

He was born June 4, 1924 in Grunberg-Silesia, East Germany to Marie Hedwig Koehler and Georg Willi Koenig. Werner married Christa D. Birth, May 6, 1947, married almost 50 years, solemnized in the LDS Temple.Werner was a devoted and faithful family man, always seeing to his family's needs first. He loved his family, friends, and the Lord, and was loved in return by all those who knew him. He was a master upholsterer whose work was a piece of art. He happily served for many years with the Boy Scouts, bringing many to the Eagle rank, including himself. He also received the Silver Beaver award. He was a faithful, kind, helpful member of the LDS Church, serving many years in the Bishopric and other various callings. He loved being a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple and found joy and peace in being there and helping others. Music was pleasure to him, he sang with the German Choir, recently performing in their annual Christmas program. He considered choir members his extended family. Werner made many friends and always tried to help everyone. He will be sorely missed by all.

Werner is survived by his wife, Christa; children: Christine McKinley, Georg, Michael, Tara Evans, Marian, Werner, Jr.; his brother, Heinz, and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Shane.

The viewing will be held Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 23, 1996, at the LDS Ensign 3rd Ward, 9th Ave and "K" St. at 1 p.m., a viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
